There seems to be no end to the sources of stress in modern life. Most people suffer some type of stress, and they must each find their own coping strategies. Sometimes the methods that once worked will stop working, and then you have to try new ones. The following are some new ideas for dealing with your stress.
Avoid grinding your teeth by forcing your jaw to relax. Stress seems to manifest itself in certain areas of our bodies, and the jaw is a primary target. Take a deep breath, release it, and at the same time, relax your jaw muscles. This should relieve some of the stress and help you feel better.
Use your sense of smell to be stress-free. Several different scents including basil, anise, and lavender have calming effects. All you need to do is put some rock salt and a few drops of oil in a vial. Whenever you feel the need, take a deep breath of the scent.
Be knowledgeable about stress and how it affects you. Understanding where the harmful stress in your life emanates from is crucial to controlling it. Stress could be something that you react to such as a person, object or an event. Once you determine what actually causes your stress, it will be easier to minimize it or eliminate it altogether.
Putting pen to paper (or fingertips to keyboard) can go a long way in stress reduction. There are problems in everyone’s life that causes anxiety. They may not be things you want to share with other people. Writing out these things for yourself can give you some perspective and meaning. Think about keeping a notebook with all your writing in. By doing this, you will have a useful resource to refer back to in the future if you are ever faced with similar problems.
Some people turn to alcohol or other drugs when they are stressed out. Essentially, this is how they work to provide relief for the issue. Unfortunately, however, it’s only temporary relief — if even that. Drugs and alcohol will not help you. They will do more to create new problems for you than they will to get rid of your stress.
Getting stress to the point where it doesn’t affect you that much, takes a lot of preparation and a lot of soul-searching. It’s possible, if you keep in mind that you control your thoughts and that stress is only a visitor. Don’t let stress stay and you’ll be a happier person very soon.
